“ Traffic deaths are now the leading global cause of deaths for children and young adults between 5 and 29 years old.”
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
And this, just earlier this week near us . Kid was 17. No cause has been released, but it sounds like excessive speed.

True
I’d be worried if the leading cause of death for young people wasn’t accidents.

traffic deaths are on the rise over here... despite cars being safer than ever
*cough smartphones cough*
as of next year it will be illegal to cycle whilst on your phone too... wich... wont do shit coz they cant enforce it near enough
automatic loss of license for at least a year might drive the point home
course they cant make money off that so wont happen

This is an unfortunate trend that will only continue. The reason is distracted driving. Far too many people cannot put down a phone for anything, and until this behavior is punished it will never end. Short of treating it like a DUI, I see nothing that can be done to stop sheeple from removing themselves from their phone while driving. I do believe another reason is our “everything now” culture which has bred increasingly impatient and more agressive driving, as well. Not a good time to enjoy a motorcycle, cycling, or other like means of transportation due to these behaviors.

The reason is distracted driving.
So. Much. This. And all the auto manufacturers are doing is adding systems that to make it even easier to drive without becoming engaged in the process.

Forget about the giant asteroid. Cell phones and social media are going to destroy humanity first.

Which is good, because people aren’t going to be engaged regardless.

I want safer cars and better drivers, but frankly the fact that it is the leading cause of death for that age range globally probably says more about massive triumphs in medicine and agriculture than it does about cars and drivers.

As reductions in the prior leading causes are made, something else will take the top spot. With a reduction in wars, kids spending more time on devices rather than partaking in risky activities, etc., those have been reduced.

An innocent driver sitting at a stop sign was killed here in Austin two days ago by street racers. One of them was taken to the hospital, and of course, the other ran.

It’s an endless circle though. The more “distracted” tech they add, the more reliant people become on that tech, causing them to become even more distracted.

EXACTLY. The article clearly states that the accident rate has remained steady. Everyone else talking about distracted driving in here is missing the point.

Which isn’t as insidious as FB. FB, Google etc are social engineering. We’re just talking about cars.
